The VanGorden Oath
A Personal Commitment to Rancho Cucamonga
Before I ever take an official oath of office as a member of the Rancho Cucamonga City Council, I believe I should first make an oath directly to you — the residents of this city.
Public office is not a reward. It is a responsibility.
As a former police officer, I have taken and upheld oaths before. An oath is not symbolic. It is a promise of conduct. It is a standard by which you allow yourself to be judged.
That is why I am making this commitment now — before a single vote is cast.
Why This Oath Matters
Every City Council member swears to uphold the United States Constitution, the California Constitution, and to act in accordance with California Government Code and the Rancho Cucamonga City Code of Ethics.
Those laws require elected officials to act in the public interest and to place the community above individual or group interests.
I believe those words should mean something.
Trust in Rancho Cucamonga city government begins with accountability.
My Oath to You
I, David VanGorden, candidate for Rancho Cucamonga City Council District 2, pledge the following to the residents of this city:
- I will put the public interest above political pressure and special interests.
- I will remain accessible before, during, and after the election.
- I will clearly explain my votes and the reasoning behind them.
- I will question development that strains infrastructure and public safety.
- I will support responsible growth that protects neighborhood stability.
- I have chosen not to accept developer campaign contributions so that my independence is never compromised.
- I will treat this office as a responsibility, not a privilege.
This oath is given freely and voluntarily because accountability should begin before Election Day — not after.
Independence and Transparency
Developers are legally allowed to make campaign contributions. That is part of our political system.
However, I have made the decision not to accept developer contributions so residents can have full confidence that my decisions will be based solely on what is best for Rancho Cucamonga.
Independence strengthens trust.
Transparency strengthens leadership.
Public Accountability
If elected to the Rancho Cucamonga City Council, I will take the official oath required by law.
But this oath — the VanGorden Oath — is personal.
It is my word to you that your voice will matter.
Leadership should not require residents to wonder whose interests come first.
